什么’s the future of fantastically fast 互联网? Think: 锂电! We all know the magic that invaded our lives with the launch of 无线上网. But the question is: Will 锂电, or bidirectional, high-speed and fully networked 无线通讯技术 be 无线上网’s competitor?
无线上网 is an internet connection standard, and so is 锂电. The main difference is that 无线上网 operates using radio waves while 锂电 uses visible light waves. Astounded? Read on.
Going back to basic physics, the visible 光谱 is 10,000 times larger in terms of frequencies available, compared to the radio spectrum. With increased usage of 无线上网 channels, the networks are bound to get overcrowded soon, and performance in terms of usage speeds is going to suffer badly.
锂电 is based on its usage of LED lights, which allows users to modulate the intensity of rays even at high speeds. This will allow 锂电’光线将数据（肉眼看不见）传输到接收器，该接收器经过调整以接收光信号。
Basically, 锂电 is similar to your remote controls, which use an infra-red emitter; however, 锂电 will be much faster and have much more bandwidth. There are even rumors that this technology will even make it to our smartphone cameras!
韦尔门尼, a Talinn (Estonia)-based company, recently ran a test in one of its offices using 锂电 and clocked speeds of 1 Gbps. Amazingly, that’s almost 100 times faster than 无线上网. In theory, and in lab tests, scientists have found that 锂电 can reach speeds up to 224 Gbps!
So, you know how your 无线上网 can be hacked from outside your home? Not so with 锂电. Since it needs light waves to transmit, it is safe, because light cannot permeate through walls.
But why 锂电?

Don’t give up that 无线上网 just yet
Despite the eager anticipation for 锂电, many questions need to be dealt with before this technology goes out to the mass market. Those questions include:
- How will people use 锂电 networks outdoors in the sun or anywhere a television is on or other lights are active?
- 锂电’s security scenario sounds good, but what about 互联网 access from in a home as a whole? 锂电 connections can only be operated within line-of-sight of the receiving machine. That’s a major drawback in contrast with the ease of access of 无线上网.
